Finally, Little One is on the mend and we have managed to leave the house.
Before leaving the house, I went through the changing bag checklist with military precision. Checking and double checking that I had everything, and it got me thinking about which items I wouldn’t be able to cope without (Being dramatic. Sorry.).
Here are my 5 must-have items:
1) Baby Wipes
This might seem like a fairly obvious one but who knew they had so many uses?! Apart from the obvious nappy changing and baby cleaning uses, I also find that they’re great for cleaning up sick from clothes. Nobody wants white stains after a misdirected throw up! Not only this but they’re handy for cleaning surfaces from those milk spills.
2) Travel changing mat
How many times have you went into baby changing facilities and the cleanliness of the place is not up to scratch? Or you have gone out for the day only to realise that there are no baby facilities? I love the travel changing mat as it means a guaranteed hygienic place to put your little one. Not only this but it holds the nappies and bags so you’re not scrabbling about the changing bag to find them! Mine has a handy little handle which can be attached to a pushchair too.
3) Muslin cloth
A friend once told me that my one staple item when having my baby would be a muslin cloth and she was right. Although a bib does the job to an extent, I find that they very quickly become soaked through. Having a muslin cloth means that the majority of spit ups end up on the cloth and not rubbing against my baby’s skin. They’re also great for covering clothes or as a thin cover in the summer (using a clean one of course!). However, my best use of a muslin cloth is using it to entertain Toby. Who knew one could have so much fun with a cloth? We have had hours of delight throwing it into the air, spinning it around, playing peekaboo…the list is endless!
4) Ready Milk
Admittedly, I am the definition of the modern mother. If I want a bottle making then I use a bottle machine; the bottle goes in, I press a button and ta da we have milk (well not quite but you get the idea). The milk is the perfect temperature and the process is quite simple. This is why I love Ready Milk. The milk is stored and consumed at room temperature so there is no messing about with mixing up a bottle.
5) A change of clothes
I always have at least one change of clothes for Little One (sometimes two). You never know when the doo-doo is going to escape the nappy and good luck sorting that one out if you don’t carry spares.
This is a general idea of what I pack:
– Short and long sleeved vest
– A short/long sleeved top (weather dependant)
– Comfortable trousers (sometimes I’ll swap this for smart wear if we’re going to an event)
– A grower (if we’re out later in the day)
Of course there are many more necessities that I could include.
What are your must-haves for leaving the house?
– Tee ????
