bakerdays Letterbox Cake – Valentine’s Day Review

by thenibecamemum

Anybody who knows my husband knows that he is extremely fussy when it comes to buying him gifts. For his birthday, I buy him the same pair of trainers every year. At Christmas, he tells me what to buy him so this requires no thought. With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, I was filled with dread at the thought of finding him a gift. That was before bakerdays contacted me to try their letterbox gift cake. After all, who doesn’t love cake?!

About the bakerdays Letterbox Cake

The bakerdays letterbox cake is the baby of the family at a cute 5 inches (12cm x 2.5cm) – this allows for 3-4 portions. As the name suggests, it fits perfectly through your letterbox and it really does fit!

It is the ideal personalised gift for all occasions and would be a fantastic last minute gift – especially with the option of next day delivery when ordered before 2pm!

The letterbox cake comes with a choice of 6 flavours. This includes a gluten-free and a dairy-free option. Fantastic!

Ordering the Cake

One thing that stands out about ordering from bakerdays is the sheer amount of choice. For Valentines cakes alone, there are 78 designs – many of which can be personalised with a photo and text. This made it very difficult for me to choose one. In the end, I went for one which was lighthearted since we aren’t really the romantic type!

Although I didn’t need to use their online tool on this occasion, I tested it out anyway. I found it very easy to upload photos and personalise the text.

Arrival of the Letterbox Cake

As promised, the cake arrived the next day through my letterbox. On opening the box, I found a cake tin, some heart sweets and a little card, which was a lovely touch!

On opening the tin, I have to admit that I was expecting a bashed cake because of the drop it took through my letterbox. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the cake was in one piece as a result of the super packaging!

I removed the cake from the tin using the little tag which had clear instructions on how to do so. It was so straightforward.

First Impressions of the bakerdays Letterbox Cake

My first impressions of the bakerdays letterbox cake were positive. The cake was exactly what I’d asked for and it looked amazing!

Here is the photo I sent to bakersday to give you an idea of the quality of the printing:

The Cake Test (my favourite part!)

I was extremely excited to taste the bakersday letter box cake and I was delving in within minutes of opening it!

I opted for the red velvet cake as it is a favourite of hubby’s and one of bakerdays new flavours.

Around the sponge was a layer of buttercream which was then sealed with the icing. Because of this, the cake was extremely moist. Additionally, the cake tasted delicious and had the perfect balance between the sponge, buttercream and icing!

The portion sizes were ample for both myself and my husband. Now all that is left to do is to decide who gets the last piece!
