Easy Mat – Equipment for Baby Led Weaning

by thenibecamemum

I was contacted by Michelle at Easymat to try out their mat and immediately jumped at the chance. I had recently been talking with my husband about how impractical our current way of serving T his food was. We couldn’t chance giving him a bowl as he has a knack for launching anything he gets his hands on. So instead, we would pour food items from a bowl onto his high chair tray, which then became a nightmare to clean. With their promise of being mess and hassle free, the Easymat seemed like a perfect solution.

My first impression of the FDA approved, silicone Easymat was that it was larger than expected. With dimensions of 38cm X 26cm, it would not fit our current high chair tray. For us, this wasn’t an issue as we removed the tray and placed the mat on our dining room table. However for those who cannot do this, check the dimensions first. If the mat will not fit then they offer a mini mat for those looking for a scaled down version!

Easymat

On our first use, I was pleasantly surprised at just how much grip the Easymat had before even applying the suction cups which hold the Easymat in place! When applying the suction cups, I found them really easy to use. You press down on each of the four corners which then creates a vacuum. The mat gripped well to both our slightly textured work tops and glass dining room table.

The Easymat has been designed in the shape of a smiley face with 3 sections. It also came with a matching lime spoon. The divides have a good depth to them – deep enough to hold the food sufficiently but not too deep that T couldn’t access his food.

To begin with, T was more focussed on trying to pick the mat up but when he realised it was a losing battle, he got stuck in.

After use, the Easymat could be removed by reintroducing air to the suction pads. It was extremely easy to clean with warm water and soap, and dried quickly on the draining board. The mat is also suitable to clean in a dishwasher (as well as microwave and freezer safe).

Despite its large size, storing the mat is easy as the pliable material means that you can roll up the mat. This would also be ideal for travel.

All in all, our experience with the Easymat was extremely positive and comes highly recommended!

Yeah, this is still messy if you have a baby who likes to throw things (like mine) but as it’s got such a wide surface area, it’s definitely reduced the mess around him. We love it 🙂

We have a Feed Me Compact folding highchair which came with a matching splash mat to stand the high chair over! Great for messy little pups lol!.

Sounds great! Now that I’ve solved table mess, my next challenge is to solve floor mess so the splash mat sounds like something I need!

I could really do with this for my niece and nephew! We don’t have children (I’m hoping it does happen at some point lol), just a cat! We have got a booster seat thing to let my niece sit at the table which is absolutely brilliant as an auntie. We can just keep it there as it takes up little room unlike a high chair (she is 2) but then can sit with us to eat xx

Reply
thenibecamemum 14th April 2017 - 8:18 am

We use a booster seat too and they’re so handy. And as you say, save room! 🙂
