We were recently invited to Toby Carvery, Wolviston to experience their new refurbishment. Being a lover of a good carvery, I was keen to try out the ‘Home of the Roast’ and see if it lived up to its name.
I attended the Toby Carvery with my husband, toddler and parents. When we arrived, we were shown to our table straight away. The new refurbishment was lovely and gave a welcoming atmosphere. We loved the lighting and this was a discussion point for most of the evening!
Drinks
Once seated, we ordered our drinks from an extensive Drinks Menu. Although we weren’t drinking alcohol on this occasion, I did notice that they offer some great cocktail drinks at just £3.99. The Gordon’s Pink Fizz cocktail was tempting! As well as cocktails, they also have a good selection of wines and other alcoholic drinks. Plus great soft drink options such as their bottomless soft drinks (priced at £2.65) and a range of low calorie and sugar-free drinks.
My favourite option from their menu was their Freakshakes. I gave one of their cookie freakshakes a try and struggled to finish it. Not for want of trying though as it was scrumptious!
Food
After this, we ordered some starters from their Toby Taster menu. At £5 for 3 starters, this was such a good price. We opted for the pigs in blankets, Dorset smoked cheddar bites and lamb kofta. All three were delicious. The only downside was that they didn’t have any minted yoghurt for the koftas.
Then it was time to try the famous roast. All four of us decided to try the carvery, at £6.99, and we were given a plate for my toddler to share some of our food at no extra cost.
There were four meats to choose from – roast gammon, beef, turkey and pork – which were served by their master chefs. After choosing your meat, you can help yourself to an assortment of steamed vegetables and roasted potatoes.
Each of us, chose a different type of meat and we were all happy with how each meat tasted. My husband didn’t think his portion of meat was enough but unless you’re a meat fiend, like him, then it really was plenty!
For me, the vegetables had been cooked exactly as I like them. I especially loved the sweet potato and cauliflower cheese. However, I was disappointed to find that some of the serving dishes were not kept topped up meaning that there wasn’t a lot of sweet potato left.
As well as meat and vegetables, there was a selection of gravy and sauces to accompany the meat meaning there was something for everyone.
As well as the traditional carvery, you can choose from other items from the menu such as the Yorkshire Wrap and several vegetarian options.
Service
When we first arrived, true to style, my fussy family complained about being sat next to the fire (much to my dismay as it was a great photo opportunity!). The waitress, however, was completely understanding and happily moved us to another spot.
During our meal, our waitress was attentive and took our drink and food order without much of a wait. She was also very helpful with a bill issue we had and resolved it immediately.
Final Thoughts on Toby Carvery, Wolviston
Considering that you can buy a meal and drink for under £10, this is a great option for a family meal.
Under 3’s are free or it’s £4.99 for a child’s meal so it really is a budget friendly family meal.
Food portions are ample and the food is delicious. More vegetable options would be something I’d like to see but for £6.99, you really can’t complain!
I would definitely consider Toby Carvery, Wolviston – ‘Home of the Roast’ – again.

I LOVE a good carvery. Roast dinners are one of my favourites but I do like a lot of veg with mine. Great value for money! Sarah
Yes, I tend to pile up the veg too. On this occasion, I’d went a bit too crazy on the starters so didn’t leave much room!
I I haven’t been for a nice carvery in a long time, that shake looked amazing as did all the food, and I love that they give you a plate for your little one. Will have to go for a carvery soon now x
The shake really was amazing. A bit much, but worth it!
Your carvery looks delicious, ours doesn’t look even close to that. I defo need to visit yours at some point, mouth is watering already lol
It’s such good value for money so definitely worth a trip there 🙂
I have to admit I have a soft spot for Toby, it is one place we often end up going for a meal as you get good food for a good price. I have there app as well which often gives you deals and you can save up tokens for free meals.
Oh, I didn’t know about the app. I’ll have to look into it as I’ll definitely be back again!
I haven’t been to Toby Carvery in a good few years now but I do love their menu and how affordable it is. Can’t believe they have cocktails at that price.
I know! They’re so reasonably priced.
This is such good value for a dinner so I’m surprised that I’ve never been there before x
It really is good value. We managed to have a starter, main and unlimited drinks each plus three desserts for just £50!
That freak shake looks amazing! I enjoy going to a carvery I always end up eating far too much though! The prices are very reasonable.
It was delicious but very filling!
Our local Toby Carvery is always great value and family friendly. I really want a roast now I’ve read this!
Haha! I wouldn’t mind another one myself!
Oh yum, the food at Toby’s Carvery looks amazing and the Freakshake looks like something I could do with right now, so yummy and moreish and for a good price as well.
I’m craving another right now! They’re definitely moreish.
One of the things I miss most about the mainland is a Toby Carvery. We don’t have any on Jersey. We used to go there on a Sunday to fill up. I love the deco of this one, and that pudding/shake looks a-ma-z-ing
Aww that’s a shame! And the shame really was delicious!
Wow how reasonable is that meal!! I love when places keep the costs of kids meals down. Can we talk about that dessert please? Is that brownie on top of cookie and ice cream? AMAZING! Toby Carvery really looks like a yummy place to eat.
Yes! It was definitely more dessert than drink. And it’s so reasonably priced.
I think it’s a good option if you want a cheap family meal. I like that you can go up for more veg too.
It definitely is. £50 to feed 4 adults and a toddler a starter, main and unlimited drinks, plus three desserts! 🙂
We love a roast and you can’t beat a carvery for value! That freakshake looks absolutely amazing, and I always love when a place does cauliflower cheese with their roasts too. It all looks delicious!
You really can’t. And the freakshake was extremely moreish!
We love a trip to our local Toby Carvery. I’ve never had the starters though, and after seeing yours I think we might have to have some next time!
Aww you should. £5 for 3 is such good value for what you receive.
That freakshake looks amazing… I think that’s actually really good value for a family meal! 🙂
It really was!
Its great value for money! We’re depressed as they’ve just closed the Toby Carvery in Basingstoke! The roasts are really good 🙂
Aww no! That’s a bit rubbish.
This restaurant looks interesting to visit to get delicious and tempting foods. I will absolutely share this with my hubby. He reall wants to discover new places and restaurants.
I have never actually been to a carvery but have always wanted to go! There just aren’t any near where I live x
That’s a real shame! There seem to be lots where we live but Toby Carvery seems to be the best value.
We went to a Toby carvery recently and I was really surprised at how tasty it was. We all enjoyed it and it was such good value!! We will definitely be returning!
It really is such good value. We’ll also be back again.
I really wish they would give you the option of more meat even if you have to pay extra. I’m really fussy when it comes to the veg as I need it a certain softness or else the texture makes me gag x
This looks so good and the prices are very reasonable! I need to try one of those drinks too x
A carvery is always a winners choice – even more so when it’s a good one. This one looks great!
Oh wow that freakshake! I think I would struggle too. The value is really good and I like that children under 4 eat free. As my toddler can be a little bit of a fuss pot and I hate buying food when he ends up leaving it all. My eldest would love this though as he’s roastie mad! x
This was my thoughts. I initially thought that it was going to be £4.99 for my toddler and was thinking he’d never eat enough for it to be worth it. Then the waitress explained that he would eat free.
I love Toby Carvery for an easy, budget roast dinner! The desert looks so amazing… I’m already thinking of visiting just a dessert!
